Beta testers received iOS 14.4 RC and iPadOS 14.4 RC last week. As you know, Apple usually releases stable updates a week after a GM or RC build. As usual, the latest versions of iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 are released a few days after the candidate’s release. Here’s what’s new in the iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 update.

Apple releases iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to the Public

Updates to iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 are available to anyone with a supported iPhone and iPad. This means that you may have already received an update on your iPhone or iPad. This is a minor update after the last public iOS update. Therefore, you may not notice many changes as a result of the update. However, you can upgrade your device if you don’t want to jailbreak your iPhone.

Apple released a number of updates at the same time as iOS 14.4. The list includes iPadOS 14.4, watchOS 7.3, tvOS 14.4 and HomePod 14.4. Both iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 have the same build number (18D52) as the iOS 14.4 Release Candidate Update released last week. The official change log for iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 can be found below.

iOS 14.4 includes the following enhancements for your iPhone :

  • Smaller QR codes can be recognized by the camera.
  • Ability to classify Bluetooth device type in proper headset identification settings for audio notifications
  • Notifications when your iPhone camera cannot be verified as a genuine new Apple camera in the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The following problems are also solved in this issue:

  • Artifacts may appear on HDR photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro.
  • The fitness widget may not display updated activity data.
  • Input may be delayed and prompts may not appear on the keyboard.
  • The keyboard in the messages may not be displayed in the desired language.
  • The audio from the Messages app in CarPlay cannot be resumed after a pause for voice prompts or Siri.
  • If you enable access control, you may not be able to answer phone calls from the lock screen.

iPadOS 14.4 includes the following enhancements for your iPad:

The following problems are also solved in this issue:

  • Input may be delayed and prompts may not appear on the keyboard.
  • The keyboard in the messages may not be displayed in the desired language.

Download and install iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4

Updates to iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 are publicly available. And it’s available with the same build number as the iOS 14.4 Release Candidate. This means that if you are on a release candidate build, you will not receive this update. Indeed, the public update also looks like a release.

If you are running the latest public version of iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 on your iPhone or iPad, you should have already received the update. You can check for updates manually under Settings > Software Update. And to install the update, click the Download & Install button after connecting the iPhone to WiFi.

You can also remove the beta profile from your iPhone or iPad if you want to install the public building. But it will also put an end to beta updates of the device. To continue beta testing, reinstall the beta profile.

To remove the beta profile from the iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to General and then Profile.
  3. You will now see the beta profile installed on your iPhone or iPad.
  4. Click on the available beta profile.
  5. Then click on the Delete Profile button.
  6. When prompted to enter a password, enter the device ID and click Clear.

After removing the beta profile, you can follow the standard update process i.e. Settings > General > Software update.

After restarting, you can use your Apple device with the latest iOS 14.4 or iPadOS 14.4 update.

You can also install updates manually using iTunes or the Finder. You can use IPSW files if you want to install the upgrade from a computer.
