What an interesting Windows 10 device. The Dell Vostro 3681 is a highly-configurable, low-cost all-in-one desktop PC that comes with Windows 10 preloaded. It’s the perfect device for someone who wants to save some money and get the Windows 10 operating system. It has a tiny footprint, so it takes up as little space as possible, and it’s compatible with one of the most common physical memory modules found in desktop computers today.
A few weeks ago I decided to upgrade my desktop after years of using a desktop PC. I was quite surprised when I discovered the number of desktop PCs that come with an Intel I5 processor. After researching I realized there are quite a number of them on the market and that they are quite affordable.

Read our evaluation of the Dell Vostro 3681 SFF desktop and find out how much it costs. Are you looking for a desktop that is both small and functional? This is the Dell Vostro 3681 Desktop, which meets this and many other requirements.
This is the SFF version of the Vostro 3880, which is a small desktop that isn’t designed for gaming.
It features a simple style similar to Dell’s other Vostro or Inspiron desktops, but it has a dash of color and a small pattern on the otherwise black chassis.
There’s the standard optional optical drive, as well as a few connections on the front, which we’ll discuss shortly.
In terms of specifications, the model we chose for this review is a Core i5 with a hard drive and 16 GB of RAM.
Although this doesn’t come with an SSD, you may always add one later or purchase the desktop with one already installed.
Not only that, but there are choices up to Core i7 CPUs, as well as inexpensive Core i3 and lesser options.
So, depending on how powerful you want your desktop to be, no matter what your budget is, there is a perfect match for you.
There’s no question that the desktop is dependable in and of itself. There is also the option of purchasing an extra warranty, but this comes with certain disadvantages.
The most important of them is graphics, or more precisely, a dedicated video card. Integrated graphics are standard on all of these PCs.
And, although adding a GPU is a possibility, you’ll only be able to utilize an entry-level video card. For others, this may be discouraging.
However, this does not have to be the case in your situation, since many people are perfectly happy with inbuilt graphics.
If you’re one of them, this desktop, as well as our evaluation, should be of interest to you.

Review of the Dell Vostro 3681 SFF Desktop
Buy it for: The compact frame and the variety of hardware choices.
Be aware that it does not support a large number of dedicated GPUs. It would have been preferable if the connectivity had been better.
Small company, one of the finest desktops with a Core i5 CPU, students, and other reasons are the ideal uses for this computer.
HP Envy TE01 and Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 are the best options.
The Dell Vostro 3681’s small size makes it ideal for use in your office, workplace, or even living room, and it’s capable of performing all of your everyday duties. However, avoid it if you need great graphics or at the very least a mid-range dedicated GPU, since it lacks both.
Design and Construction
The Vostro 3681 resembles other Dell SFF desktops in appearance, although there are a few minor differences.
The colorful pattern on the front panel’s bottom half, above which the Dell logo may be seen. If you choose the SD card reader, it should be available as well.
However, there are no RGB lights, and whatever color is on the chassis is the only option. The power button and ports are on the upper part, and the Vostro logo is on the top left.
The chassis is relatively straightforward, measuring only 11.42 x 3.65 x 11.53 inches as an SFF. It has ordinary build quality, nothing spectacular, but it isn’t fragile either.
While this isn’t the slimmest desktop available, it shouldn’t be a problem to store. When the desktop is upright, there are now small pegs at the bottom, but this isn’t the only method to keep it.
You may also flip it horizontally and leave it that way if you like, but make sure you don’t obstruct the ventilation vents.
The interior of the chassis isn’t very large, so that’s the sole source of ventilation for your PC.
It’s also simple to get to the hardware on the inside; just remove the two screws from the rear and the side panel will come off.
There is a little amount of room within. And, depending on what you want to accomplish, you’ll have to remove the storage drive cages and perhaps the cooling fan to get to the motherboard.
As previously stated, the Vostro 3681 is available with a variety of CPU choices. However, this is the one with a Core i5-10400 CPU, which is adequate for mid-range work, and enough RAM on the desktop to support it.
This is a six-core, twelve-thread CPU with a base frequency of 2.9 GHz and a turbo-boost frequency of 4.3 GHz.
This isn’t an overclockable CPU, and the desktop wasn’t designed for such tasks in the first place.
Most single- and multi-threaded programs, however, will operate well on this, as long as there are no graphics-intensive applications.
The integrated Intel UHD 630 Graphics on the CPU are quite decent. A discrete NVIDIA GT 730 with 2 GB of DDR5 VRAM is available from Dell, although it isn’t very powerful.
However, if you have that, your PC can still run some light graphics applications and perhaps some basic video editing.
You also have the option of going with the integrated graphics version, which this one is, and subsequently adding a GPU. However, this is restricted for two major reasons.
For starters, there isn’t enough room inside for a large enough GPU. Even if you could handle it, the only power supply choice is the 200W proprietary PSU that comes with it.
There isn’t a video card that meets both of these criteria better than the GT 730.
Dell provides both the Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro operating systems, as well as Ubuntu.
This one comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro, making it ideal for professional or office usage.
RAM and storage
When you purchase the Vostro 3681, you will be given several storage choices.
You may pick between an SSD and an HDD, and this one comes with the latter.
The motherboard does, however, include an M.2 socket that may be utilized to install a PCIe SSD later if desired.
The 16 GB of RAM that comes with the computer may be expanded to 32 GB quite easily.
The side panel comes off without tools, but once inside, a few screws and the hard drive cage must be removed before the RAM modules can be accessed.
However, this isn’t a difficult task, so whatever little changes the desktop allows can be completed without difficulty.
As a result, it’s one of the finest desktops with a Core i5 CPU that can be upgraded easily.
Connectivity and ports
The Dell Vostro 3681 has two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a Universal audio jack, and an optional SD card reader on the front panel.
Also, if you choose for the optical reader, it will be available on the front side as well.
The USB ports on the rear are identical to those on the front, so you’ll find two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connectors and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports.
Along with them, there’s the standard Ethernet port, audio ports, and Kensington lock.
To connect additional displays, there are two video ports: an HDMI and a VGA connection. However, if you intend to use two monitors, a separate GPU would provide a superior experience.
On the desktop, there isn’t a USB Type-C connector, and Bluetooth and WiFi, although there, aren’t the newest versions.
If you don’t care about precise speeds and are more concerned with usefulness, this shouldn’t be a big letdown.
Features Not Included
The Dell Vostro 3681 comes with a normal 1-year warranty and basic USB accessories such as a mouse and keyboard.
You may, however, upgrade to a higher plan to obtain a longer warranty period.
Dell also offers ProSupport options for corporate customers, which include things like an on-site warranty, faster support, and so on.
There is pre-installed software on this, such as Dell software, that you may need to remove if you don’t need it.
