Edge is the first browser on the market that actually respects user privacy. The new version is coming this summer, and it will do some pretty big changes. Here’s what you can expect: better browsing toolbars, a more powerful mute button, lesser crashes, better support for extensions, and a lot more.

This month we’re taking a look at the improvements Microsoft is making to Edge as part of its ongoing Windows 10 OS upgrades. As part of this, there are some important changes coming for Edge on Windows 10. For one, it’s getting a new look, one that’s partially inspired by the Spartan theme in Windows 10. In addition, Edge is getting an option called Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP). This will enable you to block third parties from tracking websites and collect data about your browsing history. ETP is designed to replace the ActiveX and NPAPI plugins that were used in older versions of Edge.

Edge is a pretty popular browser, but it’s not the most popular browser. In fact, Edge sits at the bottom of the pack in terms of usage share. Some of that has to do with the fact that it’s new to the scene, but there are other reasons as well. One of the biggest complaints about Edge is that it’s less secure. If you’re using Edge, you probably don’t want to be sharing every detail of your web browsing history with the world. The folks at Microsoft are aware of your privacy concerns, so they’re making some big changes to Edge to make it more secure and private.. If you didn’t know, the Microsoft Browser Vulnerability Research team is developing a Super Duper Secure Mode for the Edge web browser.

Microsoft’s Johnathan Norman says the firm is working hard to make the world a safer place and that we won’t have to worry about anything in the future.

Our goal is to create something that drastically alters the current exploit environment and increases the cost of exploitation for attackers. Because mitigations have a long history of being ignored, we’re looking for input from the community to help us create something that will endure.

As a result, Microsoft is developing more creative methods to keep the bad guys out, taking into account any external variables that may jeopardize user data in any shape or form.

Edge is getting a Super Duper Secure Mode from Microsoft.

Because of JavaScript engine flaws, most Chromium-based web browser attacks target Google’s V8 JavaScript rendering engine, as Norman so brilliantly describes.

The problems offer strong exploit primitives, there is a constant supply of flaws, and bug exploitation typically follows a simple pattern.

The JavaScript engines, according to Normal, are a particularly tough security issue for browsers.

Edge’s forthcoming Super Duper Secure Mode will deactivate the JavaScript engine’s Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation technology, which significantly speeds up JavaScript workloads and makes this scripting language approximately as performant as native C++ code.

All of this is due to the fact that achieving this level of performance requires a great deal of complexity, which gives hackers plenty of locations to look for flaws.

What if we just turned off the JIT? This decrease in attack surface has the potential to enhance user security substantially, since it would eliminate approximately half of the V8 vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. Users will get fewer security updates and emergency fixes as a result of this.

Some speculate that this change may result in a much slower Microsoft Edge.

Although this isn’t entirely implausible, Norman claims that people who deactivate JIT seldom perceive a change in their everyday surfing.

Performance degradation varied from no change to 16.9% across various activities, with an average 11 percent increase in power consumption and a 2.3 percent increase in memory use.

The aforementioned modification has a 58 percent effect on the popular Speedometer 2.0 benchmark.

Over the next several months, Microsoft intends to examine its Super Duper Secure Mode project to see whether making it accessible publicly in Edge is helpful enough.

Edge Canary, Dev, and Beta are all good places to start if you want to try out Super Duper Secure Mode.

Simply activate Super Duper Secure Mode in edge:/flags, and then provide feedback to Microsoft through the Feedback option in Edge.
