How To Fix Scroll Bar Related Issues in Windows 10

Reader question:
Hi Wally, sometimes it’s hard to see the scroll bar on the right side of the screen. Is there any way to change the color or make it darker? Thank you. – Jim Minky, USA.

Before troubleshooting a computer problem, I always recommend analyzing and resolving the underlying issues that affect the health and performance of your PC:

  • Step 1: Download the PC recovery and optimization program (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step Two: Click on the Start scan button to detect problems in the Windows registry that may be causing PC problems.
  • Step Three: Click the Fix All button to fix all issues.

Setting up automatic weekly (or daily) scans will help prevent system problems and keep your PC running smoothly.

Wally’s reply: The scroll bar has undergone many changes over the years. Its development was influenced by both utility and aesthetics. It’s hard to say what an ideal scrollbar would look like that meets both requirements.

For some users, Windows 10’s scroll bar doesn’t have the utility they need. In this case, changing the position, color or size of the scroll bar should solve the problem. But unfortunately, we don’t have many options when it comes to customizing the scroll bar in Windows 10.

However, we can try different solutions to see what works best for us. Let’s go!

The scroll bar is not clearly visible.

Solution 1 – Change the display resolution

Solution 2 – Switch to high contrast mode

Solution 3 – Change the position of the scroll bar on the screen

What is a scroll bar?

A scroll bar is a long, thin section at the edge of a window on a computer screen. If the window content extends beyond the window in which it is located, a scroll bar helps you navigate through the window content.

Where is the scroll bar in Windows 10?

The scroll bar is on the right side of most windows when you need it.

Solution 1 – Change the display resolution

Press the Windows key and start typing the search command.

Under Screen Resolution, select the screen resolution. It is best to choose the one marked as (recommended).

Solution 2 – How do I switch to high contrast mode in Windows 10?

Press the Windows key and start the search in high contrast mode and click on the option as shown in the figure.

Now click on the slider (as shown in the image) to activate the high contrast.

Windows asks you to wait while it applies the changes.

This is how the scroll bar looks in high contrast mode when hidden.

This is what it looks like when displayed.

And this is what it looks like when the mouse pointer is on the scroll bar.

You can choose between different themes.

Solution 3 – Change the position of the scroll bar on the screen

Do you feel like things bump into the edge of the screen?

If this is the case, you may be able to solve this problem by adjusting the position of the image on the screen.

Check the computer’s monitor settings by pressing the physical buttons. Go through all the options and find the setting to adjust the picture position. Use it to position the image correctly. When you reset the monitor to the factory settings, the screen may be calibrated automatically.

Check the graphics card settings for options to place the image on the screen.

Is your PC healthy?

I always recommend my readers to regularly use a reliable registry cleaner and optimizer like WinThruster or CCleaner. Most of the problems that occur can be attributed to a damaged and bloated registry.
